The Mirage
MPC-IFX
Peacock Tail Water Screen Systems.
The Multi Pump Chassis Approach.
The Mirage MPC’s (Multi Pump Chassis)
represent a complete line of water screen systems that are designed
to cover the entire range of screen sizes from a “mini PT” (Pool
system) to the MPC-2100 that will create a screen over 80’ in
height.
The Key design features for all of
the (MPC) systems are based on proven technologies and methods
that Mirage has developed and continued to refine over the last
decade. Total Flexibility was designed into every aspect of
the MPC’s. For the most part this allows us to tailor a given
model to fit the exact needs of a particular application.
Since we don’t have to design each system from scratch we can offer
our clients a more economical approach while maintaining maximum
performance and a glove like fit to their application. The
MPC’s were also designed to be extremely compact which lends a great
deal toward their flexibility.
The MPC systems are offered in 3
different models that cover the entire range of screen size
requirements and capabilities. There are an almost infinite number
of configurations, component choices and options available for the
MPC’s that allows us to create a system to excel at your particular
set of performance requirements.
Features
of the MPC-IFX Water Screens
- Multiple utility bays in
each chassis, a modular approach. These bays can accommodate
either pumps or Ballast tanks. This gives each of the
chassis a great deal of flexibility in adapting to a variety of
different applications,
environmental conditions and performance/operational
requirements.
- 99% of the MPC system is
submerged, all but the upper half of the nozzle resides
under the surface of the water, hence, it preserves the clean
uncluttered sightline of the show area by remaining invisible.
90% of the IXF Floatation system lies under the surface of the
water as well, the float pods are the only thing seen and they
are obscured with a midnight blue covers, so, they use
camouflage to remain visually unobtrusive.
- A Massive intake filtration
Element. The entire external surface of the chassis is
designed to double as an intake filter. This provides a very
large amount of filtration area which in turn provides three key
capabilities;
- It allows these systems to
operate in very dirty water or water with large
amounts of debris.
- It allows the systems to
operate for much longer periods of time between
grate/filter cleanings.
- It reduces the velocity of
the water entering the system to a rate that will not harm
marine life, ie, even the most feeble marine life would be
able to easily swim away after an encounter with it.
- Ballast Tanks can be
integrated into the MPC’s. This allows us to accurately
trim the buoyancy of a floating system regardless of the
combination of pumps, nozzles, or other accessories employed on
the system. In the case of mobile systems the ballast
tanks make it much easier to launch the MPC platform and then to
easily float it into its show position. At that point the
ballast is either dumped or trimmed after the MPC is in it’s
show position to achieve the correct float level, or, in the
case of using It in the “foot mode” it is used to lower the
platform and its extended feet onto the marine floor or it’s
submerged platform. Upon the need for removal or
re-location, maintenance or servicing, the ballast tanks are
re-inflated so the system floats again and is easily towed to a
dock or other service point. Many potential water show
venues are denied the chance to utilize water screens because
they would be in the way or interrupt normal operations.
With the MPC’s ballast system, the water screen platform can
easily be moved into position pre show and stowed in an out of
the way location between shows. We’ve found that the
ballast tanks GREATLY facilitate the launch,
positioning and removal/servicing of the MPC systems. How
could 120 years of submarine technology be wrong??
- Squat profile. The MPC’s
are designed to operate in minimal water depth. This
allows them to perform in venues with very shallow pools/ponds
that would not otherwise support a PT system. We’ve found
that this shallow water capability is almost always an advantage
as even if depth isn’t a challenge it simply takes up less room.
- Integrated External Float
Modules can be employed on any if the MPC models. The IXF
systems are designed to supply flotation to the MPC systems and
is key in compensating for the massive thrust vector during
operation. The IXF systems are used primarily for deep
water applications. The IXF modules are designed for each
of the different MPC models and are themselves adjustable.
- Complete access to all of
the internal components is made easy! The grating panels
that cover the exterior are all removable and the entire top
consists of either hinged doors or removable panels.
Maintenance and service are a snap.
- Adjustable legs for
shallow water venues. When used in the foot mode the MPC
simply lowers its adjustable legs to set the proper operational
height.
- The MPC’s can easily be
configured to power fountains and other water
features/effects. We have on occasion configured the
MPC to feed additional effects associated with the water
screen’s installation. It all leans towards taking
advantage of the MPC’s flexibility.
- The MPC’s will accommodate a
wide range of industry standard pumps and nozzles.
Mirage will recommend the correct pump or combination of pumps
for your particular application (s).
The MPC
Models
The Mirage Pool-PT
is the smallest of the MPC systems. This system brings the
amazing spectacle of water screen cinema to any pool side event.
When used in conjunction with our
Mini-PT
nozzles it will produce a water screen up to 12’ high and 40’ wide.
The system is simply placed into the pool and tied off in a desired
location using fishing line or small
weights. It contains adjustments for flow control so the size
of the screen can be changed and angular adjustments for
the operation with or without the IXF flotation system nozzle.
This system is small enough to easily be set and struck by
one person.

The MPC-40 series
is next up on the list according to power. These systems
contain up to 5 bays for either pumps and/or ballast tanks.
The MPC-40 will produce water screens up to 30’ in height and can
run numerous fountain effects. Constructed of Stainless steel
and Teflon it’s one system that will outlive us all.

The MPC-300 Series
are in the high horse power regime. These systems make
big screens. It’s that simple. They range in
horse power from 60 to over 300Hp and produce water screens large as
80’ high and over 300’ wide.
