The Development of the WaterScrim™ V5's, 3-new models; "The final perfection of the WaterScrim™ system and the Development of 3-models to better fit the 4 basic applications." What had begun as an inspired idea in1995, the WaterScrim concept had evolved through 5 different design iterations and had been subjected to 9 years of performing water screen shows in every imaginable situation, condition, and configuration. With over 400 shows under it’s belt it was time to put the WaterScrim through its final design iteration. Although it is now referred to as the V5 (Version 5) it was actually on its 6th iteration as there had been two V3 Versions, (V3-A & V3-B). Over the years we had come to realize that WaterScrim’s had settled into four basic applications. We also came to realize that in order to get maximum performance in each set of conditions, each application would require a purpose built system. ![]()
We had taken a lot of design criteria into consideration for the 5th iteration as not only performance was important, but, it was important to keep the systems as flexible as possible so they could be tweaked and tuned to excel within the slight variations in conditions that each application presented.
The V4’s worked beautifully and had served us well for several years, but, there were some inherent deficiencies that we had come to deal with, and, we had been yearning to make several improvements for some time. The V4’s were developed to excel in ballrooms and venues with a limited ceiling height. We had done many corporate/ballroom gigs with the V3 nozzles and still do, but, they were designed for rock and roll gigs and touring situations where grid heights are typically 30 feet and above. For the gigs with low ceiling heights the V3’s were soaking up valuable space. As a result we designed the V4 systems to be very squat on the vertical axis. There was, however, some trade off for this compactness and it came in the form of increased manifold volumes and longer pre ADS cue drain down times. This made for trickier ADS cueing and longer segue's. These ADS issues are the deficiencies mentioned above. There were also some new effects we had developed (Curtain effects and Hydro-Pulse) and wanted to integrate them into the new V5 systems as well.
The New Design;
It was apparent that 3 different models would best satisfy the requirements of the four different applications.
Performance of the V5’s is nothing short of astonishing. Cue to cue response is instantaneous and ADS cues are a snap. The post cue drain down time is zero. The V5 nozzles are constructed of corrosion proof and corrosion resistant materials so they last for several decades. The V5 Nozzles are constructed of; Anodized and ACC coated T-6 Aluminum, Lexan PolyCarbonate and GFR Nylon or Polypropylene, Stainless Steel and GFR Neoprene.
The New V5 Troughs;
The new troughs would be made in two different models with many different component choices, options and configurations available within those two models.
We had also made numerous
improvements with the pumps, pump brackets, filters. damper, flow
adjustment plumbing and other features we wanted to employ in the
new version. For instance, we had moved the pump bypass valve to the
inside of the trough to save room in the utility void on the
outside. Moving this valve to the inside would make it more
difficult to get to on some setups, but, we were attempting to make
the V4’s absolutely as compact as possible, so, it was a worthy
trade off. With the V5’s we had made enough improvements in the
design that we
We are very proud of the V5 systems and will state unequivocally that they are the most advanced high resolution water screen systems in the world, hands down. Please see the “Technical Information” section for more information on the features and benefits of the V5 Systems.
